25th & JAMES
AVENUE NORTH

The first Northside Home Fund cluster to be identified,
the 25th and James Avenue Cluster, will stand out as a unique,
attractive, and affordable place to live within Minneapolis.
Project Area
The two block cluster area stretches between 25th and 26th
Avenue North and is bounded by Logan Avenue North on the
west and Irving Avenue North on the east.
Vision and Recent News
Development plans include the construction of quality, affordable,
single-family housing in place of vacant lots and boarded
buildings as well as beatification of all cluster properties
through an exterior improvement incentive program. Cluster
partners are also offering a $1,000 deferred loan to homeowners
in the cluster to help them make exterior improvements
to their homes. Construction is complete on three new
homes being built through the Home Ownership Works program
in this cluster. This program offers new
and substantially renovated homes in Minneapolis for sale
at affordable prices to low-and moderate-income persons
or households
that are first-time homebuyers. Development
partner, Powderhorn Residents Group, will rehab
of a 2,200 square foot home at 1815 26th Avenue North.
Big Stop was Demolished
The Big Stop convenience store located at 1800 26th Avenue
North was demolished on May 15, 2008. This store was a major
problem property and prompted more than 200 police calls
in 2005 before the store's operating license was revoked
in April 2006. The removal of this property was a great victory
in improving livability in this cluster.
