34th & COLFAX
AVENUE NORTH

A block that at one time had three boarded buildings and
appeared in danger of slipping toward disinvestment, the
34th and Colfax Avenue Cluster now stands united by residents
that are committed to the health and stability of their neighborhood.
Project Area
The 34th and Colfax Ave. North cluster includes the east
and west sides of Colfax Ave. N. and the east side of Dupont
Ave. N. between 34th Ave. N. and 35th Ave. N.
Vision and Recent News
McKinley neighbors unite! In August 2006 three homeowners
in the 34th and Colfax cluster opened their doors to teams
of Rebuilding Together Twin Cities’ volunteers who
spent the day completing home repairs for the owners who
were unable to make the much needed repairs on their own.
The partnership with Rebuilding Together benefited more
than just the residents that had repairs done – it
energized the entire cluster. The activity generated by so
many volunteers doing construction work drew neighbors outside.
Kids from the block were helping with landscaping projects
and neighbors were outside getting to know one another.
-Chris Morris, Executive Director of the McKinley Community
Today if you drive through the 34th and Colfax cluster you
will see blue McKinley Neighbors Unite! signs displayed in
many of the yards – a symbol of solidarity with the
block and with the McKinley neighborhood that is a sign of
hope and progress.
The McKinley neighborhood and the NHF have determined that
this cluster, which was considered to be on the tipping point
prior to the cluster intervention activities, is now stable.
The NHF will continue to support this cluster if new needs
arise, but the intervention work is considered to be complete.
